Staff are trained to work with veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and other psychosocial needs

We Honor VeteransSSM Health at Home Hospice is an accredited "We Honor Veterans" partner organization. That means our hospice staff is trained to provide compassionate listening, grateful acknowledgement and respectful inquiry to comfort people with a history of military service and possibly physical or psychological trauma.

Veterans often carry experiences from their military service that present unique challenges at the end of life. These challenges can be caused by the illness they are facing, isolation or traumatic life events.

Each veteran has a unique life story and a unique set of needs. SSM Health at Home Hospice staff guide veterans through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending. They are trained to work with veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and other psychosocial needs, such as anxiety, depression and substance abuse.

Veteran pinning ceremony
America’s veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country, and we believe it is never too late to give them a hero’s welcome home. We conduct pinning ceremonies for veteran patients, should they desire one. It can be a public or private ceremony.

The pinning ceremony publicly acknowledges the military service and sacrifices made by the veteran and his or her family. The ceremony also gives an opportunity for each veteran to share part of his or her story and gain a sense of meaning and purpose.
